An armed black man has been arrested after killing a white Texas man in a parking lot, police said.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said the 41-year-old man, identified as James “Jimmy” Brown, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of murder in the death of 37-yearold Matthew “Tasha” Brown.
Police said the man, who is black, walked into the parking lot at a Dallas apartment complex Tuesday night and shot Brown, who was a father of two and was unarmed, in the head.
The Dallas Morning News reported Brown’s girlfriend, whose name was not released, was also shot and taken to a hospital.
Brown’s death has sparked a national conversation about racial profiling and the racial divide in the United States.
Police say Brown fled in a dark-colored car and later crashed it near a convenience store.
They found Brown’s car, along with a handgun and a wallet.
He was arrested on charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The Dallas Morning news reported that Brown had recently been fired from a job in a department in the Dallas suburb of McKinney.
