The Ontario Bishop of Trenton is defending a joke he made about a priest joking about him.
The joke came during a church service, in which a priest jokes about him and a parishioner, according to a Toronto Star report on Tuesday.
In the service, a priest said that a person named Joe told him that he would like to see him in a black suit, which is the costume that priests wear in Toronto and around the country.
The priest, who said he was a priest himself, joked that the priest is a black man in the suit.
The pastor said that the joke was in good taste, and added that he will keep doing it.
A Toronto diocese spokesperson said in a statement that the bishop made the joke because it is part of the Catholic tradition and it was a way to reflect on the fact that he is black.
The Star reports that the pastor is the head of a local congregation and is in charge of about 3,000 people.
The bishop did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
