Father of the US lacross player killed on Friday in Brazil has died, his family said.
Cristiano Silva da Silva was the brother of US men’s lacrosse star and current US Open Cup champion Michael Da Silva, who died after being struck by a vehicle in his hometown of Sao Paulo on Friday, the Da Silva family said in a statement on Twitter.
He was a native of Sao Tome, the family said, adding that his family had been informed of his death.
Michael Da Silva died of heart failure, his sister, Lianna Da Silva said.
In a statement to the Da Silvas, his father said he was deeply saddened by the news and hoped for the speedy recovery of the young man.
The elder Silva also thanked the public for their support in the search for the driver.
